Ceramic Raschig Rings

Ceramic Raschig Rings

Ceramic Raschig Rings is the first development of random industrial packing. Ceramic Rings are designed for mass transfer, heat transfer, as well as modern distillation and separation industrial equipment.

Acid-resistant rings are available in the form of thin-walled rings with a diameter of 15 to 150 mm, while the outer diameter of the ring is equal to its height.

Raschig Rings are available to the order of sizes: 0.6" (15 mm), 1" (25 mm), 1.4" (35 mm), 2" (50 mm), 3" (80 mm), 4" (100 mm), 5" (120 mm), 6" (150 mm).

Features of Ceramic Raschig Rings

Ceramic rings are made from porcelain, ceramics. In acid-resistant environments, nozzles are used at temperatures from 0 to +120℃, in alkaline solutions – from 0 to +30℃.

Its surface ratio is higher than ceramic cylinders and balls by 30% and its ring shape has high mechanical stability.

Ceramic Raschig Ring is the earliest generation of random packing as a mass transfer media with simple shape.

Properties of Ceramic Rings

Ceramic packing as rings for efficient absorption have such properties: have a high specific surface area, significant free volume, that have a low specific gravity in order to produce a minimum pressure on the support structure, exerting was insignificant resistance to gas flow, efficiently distributed out over the surface of the liquid and are characterized by excellent corrosion resistance to the acidic and alkaline environment.

It can resist to any inorganic acids, organic acids and organic solvents except for hydrofluoric acid.

Application of Ceramic Raschig Rings

Raschig rings can be used to fill the absorbing columns, drying and cooling tower, extractors, converters, scrubbing tower, regeneration tower and washing towers, apparatus for producing chemical compounds.

Ceramic Random Packing is widely used in chemical industry, metallurgy industry, coal gas industry, oxygen producing industry, etc.

I'm Gizem, I'm a chemical engineer. I'm interested in making ceramic stuffs as a hobby. Would you please give some explanation about my questions below;
1) If I only mix SiO2 and Fe2O3 (3:1), can i get a suitable product without using other components?
2) Can i use water as fastener? or would you suggest me another fastener?
3) At which temperature should i mix them?
Thank you for your interest, Kind Regards
Aleksander 26.01.2021 at 14:43
Hello, Gizem. The mass of ceramic is produced by grinding and mixing with water of different components: clay, feldspar, sand, kaolin. The proportions of these materials are different percentages, depending on what and with what characteristics you need to get a ceramic mass.
Each manufacturer of ceramic mass has its own recipes and its own raw materials, which are available in its region.
There are also books on ceramics that specify the chemical composition and approximate recipes for ceramic masses.
