Application of Ceramic Cross Partition Rings


Ceramic rings with partition are used in the chemical, metallurgical and processing industries, in sewage treatment systems and in the production of mineral fertilizers. The ceramic material of the packings shows high resistance in aggressive environments. Parts are staggered into the tank to create additional channels for flow movement.

Elements are loaded into a packed column to create a larger contact surface between dissimilar substances. The liquid is absorbed by the pickings on its own plane flows down, and gas flows rise up the column. Intensive mixing and mass transfer between phases continuously occurs throughout the entire area filled with packed bodies.

Because this packing normally has a very large size, it is applied as ceramic supports for random packings.

Cross-shaped rings are used for various purposes:

  • to increase the contact of the environment in the reaction columns containing gas-liquid and liquid phases;
  • for cleaning phases from components absorbed by a liquid;
  • in oil refining processes – for separation of a phase into fractions by a heating method at various temperatures;
  • in separation columns – to isolate gas compounds dissolved in a liquid.

Acid resistant packings are also a natural heat storage unit in air cleaning units. The shape of the fillers excludes the creation of stagnant zones of liquid and the formation of through channels for the passage of phases.

Ceramic Packing are made of special materials (ceramics, porcelain) that are highly resistant to thermal shocks and chemical attack. Due to this they operate in a wide temperature range (fire resistance up to 1710°C, sintering temperature - up to 1200°C).

In acid solutions, ceramic packing are used at temperatures from 0 to 120 degrees, in alkaline media - from 0 to 30 degrees. This allows their use in various chemical and thermal processes.

Ceramic Random Column Packing is highly suitable for the conditions of higher temperature and lower temperature and can be much more resistant to all kinds of organic acid, inorganic acid and solutions except for the hydrofluoric acid than metal packing.

Ceramic surface of ceramic packing can generate extremely thin film on its coarse surface, which can promote mixing of liquid and vapor and generate little pressure drop at the same time. The unique surface of ceramic packing could promote wetting and keep liquid hold-up to a minimum. So, chance for the system to be overheated, polymerize and coke could be minimized. These column ceramic packings typically find their application in processes requiring high temperature and chemical corrosion resistance.

I'm Gizem, I'm a chemical engineer. I'm interested in making ceramic stuffs as a hobby. Would you please give some explanation about my questions below;
1) If I only mix SiO2 and Fe2O3 (3:1), can i get a suitable product without using other components?
2) Can i use water as fastener? or would you suggest me another fastener?
3) At which temperature should i mix them?

Hello, Gizem. The mass of ceramic is produced by grinding and mixing with water of different components: clay, feldspar, sand, kaolin. The proportions of these materials are different percentages, depending on what and with what characteristics you need to get a ceramic mass.
Each manufacturer of ceramic mass has its own recipes and its own raw materials, which are available in its region.
There are also books on ceramics that specify the chemical composition and approximate recipes for ceramic masses.

Is It need to apply vaselin or thermal past at Thyristor surfaces then attach to radiator/current leading parts?

When assembling thyristors, diodes with heat sinks, it is recommended to lubricate the contact surfaces with a thin layer of heat conducting paste to improve the heat transfer parameters. But this is not a prerequisite for assembly.
